In one of the more comprehensive changes in employment legislation, Australia's current OHS legislative framework is about to undergo major change. Effective January 2012, Australia will have one consistent piece of OHS legislation to counteract challenges faced by multi-state businesses when having to comply to state specific safety requirements. 

Employers should begin their preparations for the new legislation by firstly undertaking a risk analysis, reviewing all policies & procedures and developing effective representation and consultation processes. Importantly, a thorough training, education and implementation process needs to be devised to ensure all employees and management are aware of the OH&S expectations as well as how it will affect them.
